Pulse Education’s Forensic Science Workshop

Pulse Education’s ‘Forensic Science Workshop’ came to Siddal Primary School on Thursday. We were joined for the day by Year 3 pupils from Luddendenfoot Academy. The pupils from both schools got on really well and enjoyed a fantastic day working scientifically together.

In the morning, pupils learnt key skills such as latent fingerprinting using magnetic powder, fingerprint identification using black ink, hair and fibre analysis using microscopes as well as UV detection using ultra violet lights and marker pens. The children made a unique fingerprint keyring to take home with them.

After dinner, pupils then used these skills to help solve a crime scenario. To add authenticity to the activity, pupils (and adults!) wore white SOCO suits, purple gloves, blue overshoes and face masks. We were all allowed to keep these items of clothing.

We will do some follow up work in science next week and pupils will draw from this experience when they write their detective stories. Below are some photos of our fantastic day. More photos can be found on the Mr Battye Year 3 Rhinos page.

Finally, thank you to parents. It was your financial contribution that helped make this event possible.
